Info on Osteoporosis &
NOF Osteoporosis is a largely preventable disease that
today affects 1 in 2 women over 50. It is often called a
“silent disease” because bone loss occurs without
symptoms. A woman’s risk of hip fracture due to
osteoporosis is equal to her risk of breast, uterine and
ovarian cancer combined. Osteoporosis can strike women
at any age, with highly damaging affects, including
stooped posture, loss of mobility and independence, and
even death. Established in 1984, the National
Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) is the nation’s leading
voluntary health organization solely dedicated to
osteoporosis and bone health. Our mission is to prevent
osteoporosis, to promote lifelong bone health, to help
improve the lives of those affected by osteoporosis and
related fractures, and to find a cure.
