How We're Making an Impact

Strong Women Stand Tall™ reinforces to women everywhere that reducing risk for this disease is a lifelong process – it is never too early or too late to protect bone health. Physical activity, healthful eating and taking time to care for oneself – mind, body and spirit – are all healthy lifestyle choices that can reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Strong Women Stand Tall™ has declared the Friday before Mother’s Day, May 12th, “Fuchsia Friday®”— a day NOF encourages women across the nation to take a walk with other strong women in their lives to rally together, celebrate strength and raise awareness of bone health. Women will wear fuchsia, the color of the campaign, as a show of solidarity with other women.

Walking not only helps build strong bones, but can give provide the strength and energy to be positive and productive every day. And considering a woman’s risk of hip fracture due to osteoporosis is equal to her combined risk of breast, uterine and ovarian cancer, bone health should be a priority for all women. So organize groups of friends, family and co-workers to take a walk wearing fuchsia as a reminder to celebrate your strength—inside and out.

Fuchsia Friday® is the first step in the Strong Women Stand Tall™ movement!
